2021 Hunting Gear-G1 Gunner Kennel

By: Katelyn Parker

We are some of those people that considers their dogs to be part of the family. We are not the “keep them in the backyard” or “don’t let them on the furniture” kind. Our dogs are our children, and they are completely intertwined in our lives. Our most recent addition to our family is Ben, an English Setter bird dog. These dogs make excellent hunting companions to bird hunters (when trained properly), and they are also loving and good tempered, which makes them great pets. It is of great importance that our dogs are happy and healthy, and we do everything we can to keep them safe. However, there are always things that can happen that are completely out of our control and the risk increases when exploring the Wyoming outdoors in inclement weather. This is why I want share with you the amazing benefits of owning a G1 Gunner Kennel.

Receiving the G1 Gunner Kennel

One day, shortly after we got Ben, we got an obscenely heavy package from my stepdad delivered to the house. Inside was a G1 Gunner Kennel. For those that aren’t familiar, these are the Rolls-Royce of dog kennels. They are expensive and incredibly sturdy. Although very grateful and even with my far-reaching love for our dogs, I couldn’t imagine why we would need such a thing. Trying to understand I began researching the kennel.

What Makes the Gunner Kennel So Special?

The G1 Gunner Kennel is a double-walled rotomolded crate which protects the dog inside from impact and environmental factors. The company has a five-star crash rating and offers a lifetime warranty. I don’t know about you, but I always appreciate a lifetime warranty. I believe it speaks volumes of the product being offered. Upon further research I learned that the manufacturers of these kennels thought of everything. The door is reversible so it can open from either side, the door is specifically designed so that it doesn’t open in a crash, the base of the crate is wider than normal to prevent it rolling and the crates design prevents weather elements, such as rain and snow, from filling the crate. If moisture does get in, the crate has drainage in the bottom to prevent pooling. This is a crated designed with dogs in mind.

Testimonials

Now I know what the company promises and something about the kennels fabrication, but does it actually work? This is when I went down the testimonial worm hole. Even if you are not strongly considering the purchase of a G1 Gunner Kennel, take a look at the testimonials. It is fascinating what some of these dogs went through and came out of, pretty much unharmed.

One happy G1 owner tells the story about being T-boned by a driver running a red light. Her car rolled at least twice before coming to a stop facing the opposite direction from which she was originally travelling. The driver was more concerned for her dogs than herself and asked first responders to get her dogs out of the back, each of which were in their own Gunner Kennel. The firefighters had to use the jaws of life to open the hatch to rescue the dogs. What they found were two healthy dogs in their kennels which were only wearing a couple scratches.

Another testimonial tells the story of a snowy rollover crash on the highway. The driver recounts the storm and the less-than-optimal road conditions. Seeing that the road was about to get worse, the driver prepared to slow down but when he engaged the brakes, his tire caught some slush and was pulled into the ditch. Trying to correct his vehicle he ended up on the opposite side of the highway in oncoming traffic and ended up rolling his vehicle until it landed on the top side of the cab. Trapped in his vehicle, his only concern was for his dog. Witnesses to the crash and the first on the scene informed him that his dog was fine. The crazy thing is that the edge of the truck bed landed on top of the Gunner Kennel, wedging it between the truck and the frozen ground. Both the dog and kennel were unharmed.

Avoid The Worst When The Unexpected Happens

The truth of life is that we never know what is going to happen and when. In a flash your whole life can be turned upside down. You can try to convince yourself that it won’t happen to you, but the truth is, you will never know and there is nothing you can do about it. People in general are not all together great at taking preventative measures. We tend to stay in the fantasy of ‘it can’t happen’. We do this with insurance, extended warranties, our own health care, and other life choices. The G1 Gunner Kennel is one way you can avoid the coulda woulda shoulda’s of life. Living in Wyoming the weather adds a lot of variables to our safety. The winter doesn’t deter us from going out and exploring the outdoors, even with the added risk. Our dogs are almost always with us and I, even being skeptical in the beginning, am grateful for the G1 Gunner Kennel and the ease of mind it offers.
