Roadhouse Brewing Co.
Jackson, Wyoming
Written By: Sarah Reish
When our friend, Stu, told us that Roadhouse Brewing was located in Jackson we knew we had to include it on our itinerary. We ended up visiting them twice; If that’s any indication of how much we enjoyed it. More than a brewery it is also a restaurant where Sous Chef Jake Lasater and Chef Owner Gavin Fine have worked with Brewmaster Max Shafer to create a menu that pairs the food with the brews. The result is a marriage of flavors and we love the collaboration between the kitchen and brewery. The teamwork and connection between everyone was evident as people came over to say hello.
Lunch and Scheduling Our Beer Tasting
Our first visit was for lunch where we enjoyed a brat and Philly cheese steak. Steve enjoyed the brat and he said it was very flavorful. I ordered the cheesesteak which offered everything you hope for in a good cheesesteak, great steak, vegetables and cheese. The food was delicious and it was during our lunch that we asked if we could schedule a time for a tasting and interview with their brewmaster. The manager was amazing and got us hooked up with Max where we scheduled a time to visit and learn more about Roadhouse Brewing.
The Ambiance
The Roadhouse Brewing Pub is in a great location right on town square. There are two ways you can access the dining and bar areas - option one, take the spiral staircase or option two, use an elevator down the hall. The bar and dining area are located on the second level but is completely accessible. It is beautiful with wood detailing and glass walls that separate the dining space from the brewing area. The stainless brewing tanks add more interesting visual details to the pub. As you come up the stairs and around the corner you will come upon a wall of chalk boards showcasing the current beers on tap.
The Tasting
For our tasting Max had reserved a table for us and Molly Lamotte, the marketing director for Roadhouse Brewing, joined us. After ordering several appetizers for all of us to share, Max dove in and began to share about the beer and how he came to work with Roadhouse and become a brewmaster. Instantly his passion for beer became our passion and we fell in love with the beer he was sharing with us.
Beers We Tasted
We learned while trying the beer that anyone working at Roadhouse is allowed to assist with the brewing process. Caitlin our server had just made a beer with Max and we were able to try it. The environment at Roadhouse is such that they encourage collaboration and growth. Below is a list of some of the beers we tried.
Mystified & Misshapen (Sarah’s favorite) Sour - offers notes of blood orange and pink guava
Wilson Mountain Style IPA - (Steve’s favorite) notes of citrus, tropical and pine
Divergent Paths - Irish Red brewed by Caitlin (Server)
Highwayman Pilsner
Outcasty a sweet potato porter
Windkist - Collaboration between Max and Ian, Melvin Brewing
Pono Life Collaboration with Maui Brewing
Bites We Tried
The food is absolutely fantastic and when visiting be sure to note the pairing and create your own food and beer tasting. If asked, I would be unable to choose a favorite.
Homemade Beer Pretzel
Banh Mi Flatbread
Chili Relleno Bites
Taste Buds
Our tastebuds were on overdrive as we tasted the beer and the food. While visiting with Max and Molly we learned more about the concept behind our experience. The entire process is focused on collaborating and creating food and beer that compliments each other. During our conversation, Sous Chef Jake Lasater stopped by the table and shared that night was Ramen Night - where proceeds are donated to Jackson Hole Search and Rescue.
Collaborations
The collaborations run throughout the entire organization, from the brewery collaborating with Maui Brewing to Chef Jake partnering with local growers, Morning Dew Mushrooms (which are out of this world delicious). While there we met Maui Brewing who stopped by to say hello to Max and we found out that they are currently collaborating on a beer! Stay tuned and watched Roadhouse Brewing social media for more information. After our tasting we photographed the brewery and stayed for Ramen night and loved the pork belly ramen and were so happy that proceeds were going to such a great cause.
Two Locations
There are two Roadhouse Brewing locations. The first is the large brewery with a tasting room and the second is the pub, on town square, which houses a smaller, but still large, brewing set up. The pub was opened for creativity, brewing seasonal beers, and trying new recipes. We were able to visit the larger brewery and met with Mikey who showed us around the brewery and shared with us the new Seltzy hard seltzers that were released towards the end of February. The brewery is closed for tastings right now but should open back up soon so be sure and stop by for a tasting and tour.
Hit the Road
We applaud the work being done at Roadhouse and thoroughly enjoyed our time visiting with them. Next time you are in or around Jackson, be sure to stop by for some great food and beer and tell them we say hello!
