Check out this amazing drink we tried during happy hour the Friday after Thanksgiving. Oh, and we got the recipe to share with you! We think it will make a great addition to your holiday cocktail parties. But, we will let you decide, try the recipe for yourself and let us know what you think.
Steve and I needed a break from all of the Thanksgiving leftovers and headed to happy hour at Trailhead restaurant in Cody, Wyoming. Once there, we were invited to try their winter drink menu that they were preparing to release. After enjoying our drinks they offered us the recipes to share with you! Thank you Trailhead Restaurant!
So, we ordered a couple of Pork Belly Sliders and preceded to enjoy an amazing craft cocktail that featured an amazing Wyoming made spirit.
Bobby, our bar tender, made us this amazing Pumpkin Spice Latte Martini. The drink is chilled and features a hot chocolate powder garnish. It has warm spices that blend together with the Jackson Hole Still Works Vodka and chilled coffee creating a velvety goodness. This drink brings a bit of nostalgia and a wonderful holiday flavor to craft cocktails.
What makes this Pumpkin Spice Martini a Wyoming favorite was choosing Jackson Hole Still Works Vodka. This is a smooth and a high quality vodka. If you haven’t tried their vodka before, we highly recommend!
What we love most about Trailhead is their passion to use local quality ingredients; and they use them on the drink menu, not just the food menus.
The second major element is the Pumpkin Spice Cream Liqueur. This wonderfully pumpkin spice-y liqueur is perfect for holiday cocktails and is what makes this drink unique. We definitely want to include it at our holiday gatherings.
Fun fact, the spices that make up a blend we today call pumpkin spices, are thousands of years old. Nutmeg was found in a 3,500 year old pot. And in 1300’s Europe, during spice trading when tariffs were at their highest, a pound of nutmeg was a more valuable commodity than gold, costing 7 fattened oxen.
The house-made chilled coffee just might be the signature ingredient, it’s what turns this drink into a PSL martini.
Coffee Concentrate
You can easily make a chilled coffee concentrate at home, here is my very own recipe I have used for years. In a glass jar combine equal parts water and ground coffee. I usually make about 1 -2 cups at a time. Stir to combine and seal jar and leave on the counter overnight. Once brewed, use a cheese cloth to strain. Store in a glass jar in the fridge.
Again, this drink is lovely and well balanced. It makes the perfect holiday drink to add as your signature cocktail for your upcoming holiday parties. If you make it, be sure to post photos on social media and tag us @livewyldmag
