Searching For Sasquatch Project - Food & Camouflage
Written By: Sarah Reish
Sasquatch, Bigfoot, Yeti, it goes by many names. We continue our work to develop tips of the trade for those who search out our elusive friend. This month is no different, although we do strive for success, we have yet to capture ground breaking evidence of his, or her, existence. So, we are going to dive a bit deeper into the mind of ‘Squatch in this month’s issue. Please, continue to be safe out there. Stay Bear aware, be safe, and leave no trace.
Eat like ‘Squatch
Our first tip ever was to think like a ‘Squatch. Let’s revisit that and focus on ‘Squatch’s eating habits. What does ‘Squatch like or enjoy? One thing we have learned is ‘Squatch is a forager, a gatherer - if you will. We have determined that, due to Wyoming’s high number of sightings, this may be because we offer something in the way of food that ‘Squatch’s may prefer. Can you say, “huckleberries?” We believe our native berries may be directly linked to our higher number of sightings. We recommend that you, safely, identifying wild huckleberry bushes and watch for ‘Squatch in those locations. We believe this will increase the likeliness of a successful sighting. Remember to take the time to carefully document your sighting.
Natural Camouflage
‘Squatch’s, like many animals in the WYld, has a natural and innate way of blending in to its environment. Which means we must take extra care in searching ‘Squatch out. For instance, we now believe ‘Squatch to be a tree hugger - bear with me here. You see, most sightings have been in forest areas; however, if we look deeper into this elusive behavior of hiding we find that ‘Squatch may be actually hugging trees to blend in. With a large body, ‘Squatch, must work harder to not only hide, but stay hidden. We recommend looking more closely at tree trunks and in forest areas, as this may improve your chances of seeing and documenting the existence of ‘Squatch.
