Exploring The Falls During The Winter Season

Several readers recommended that we head to Rotary Park and check out Garden Creek Falls. Thank you for the recommendation! I had never been there, but Steve had as a child. I wasn’t sure what to expect. Would the entire waterfall be frozen? I was excited to find out. We decided to go for it and we were not disappointed. It was lightly snowing during our trip and it made the experience magical!

The Trail During Winter

The trail wasn’t too bad, in that it was a short hike, but it was a hike. We wore warm clothes and waterproof outer gear, as well as boots. Our hike took approximately a half hour - mostly due to the time we spent photographing. The trails are wide for the most part with the occasional rougher area. Our struggle was mostly due to the new snow making it slippery in areas so finding traction was important. When we reached the steeper parts of the trail we fought to keep our balance.

For those who like to climb, don’t get too excited by the photos, it is not allowed. For those who lean toward breaking the rules we recommend you not. That area, especially during winter, can be dangerous and you could be hurt attempting to go off trail.

The views

The views were stunning. We love nature and can be bias in our love of the Wyoming outdoors, but this was a magical adventure. There is a lot of trees and foliage, rocky terrain and formations, and the water and snow was icing a stunning location.

This is definitely an area for photographers and nature lovers. That’s us!

Is it worth the visit?

Yes! We think it is, especially in winter because this site is open year round with access to the falls we think it makes a stunning and adventurous experience that celebrates Wyoming. Many of our parks close or restrict access during the winter, but this site remains open and who gets to get outdoors and hike to a frozen waterfall? Us!
